Man, 37, arrested after allegedly swinging karambit knife at police officer in Bedok
He will be charged on Oct. 28, 2025.
A 37-year-old man in Singapore was arrested after he allegedly swung an illegally owned karambit knife at a police officer on Oct. 27.
In a news release on the same day, the Singapore Police Force (SPF) said the incident occurred at around 2:30am near Block 12 Bedok South Avenue 2.
Hostile and aggressive towards officers
The man was first noticed by officers from Bedok Police Division who were patrolling near the area.
The officers approached the male driver in a stationary car at the block's passenger drop-off point for a routine check.
The man reportedly became hostile and aggressive during the encounter.
He then allegedly swung a karambit at one officer before holding it against his own neck, and refused to drop the knife despite multiple warnings.
Police officers subdued him with a Taser and subsequently arrested him.
To be charged
The man will be charged in court on Oct. 28, 2025 with one count of using criminal force to deter a public servant from his duty, which carries a maximum penalty of four years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.
He will also be charged for unauthorised possession of a the karambit, and may face up to 36 months' imprisonment and a fine of up to S$40,000 if found guilty.
