After 14 years, 987FM DJ Kimberly Wang is leaving the airwaves.
She's also saying goodbye to Mediacorp after a career spanning 25 years.
The host and actress announced her departure in an Instagram post on Oct. 24, sharing that the coming week would be her last as a host of 987FM's evening show.
Not goodbye, just "graduating"
In the post, the former child actress reflected on her lengthy career at Mediacorp and 987FM.
"Sometimes, if you're lucky enough, you get to grow up turning your hobby into your career," Wang wrote.
Wang began acting in theatre at the age of four before gaining acclaim at the age of nine.
She later dove into a 25-year-long career at Mediacorp, appearing in dramas such as Channel 8's "Double Happiness" during her teenage years.
In 2011, Wang was crowned champion of 987FM's Radio Star competition and has been a mainstay on the airwaves ever since.
"How do I even begin to sum all these years in an Instagram caption? It's literally been most of my life," Wang wrote.
"People have spent less time graduating with a PhD. So, I'm not saying goodbye, I'm just β graduating from Mediacorp and 987FM," she added.
Part of growing up
It was a bittersweet moment, but becoming independent and learning to thrive in new environments is part of growing up, the DJ said.
Wang then turned to express gratitude to those with whom she'd crossed paths.
"To all the ones who have showered me with love and care, thank you for allowing me to experience so many firsts here," the 34-year-old wrote.
"I carry all the best memories with me. Even the one when I fell asleep and accidentally got locked in a studio set once as a child," Wang quipped, adding that the story was not merely an urban myth but something that actually happened.
What's next
As for what's next for her, Wang did not reveal much, but fans can expect to continue seeing her on the screens.
"I will continue doing all that I love, whether it's hosting, being in front of or even behind the camera creating content for you," she assured.
She also shared that she'll continue working on her entrepreneurial career at Curious Creatures, where she's a co-owner.
Next week will be Wang's final week on 987FM's evening show.
"If you'd let me keep you company for one more week, I'd love to be there with you," Wang invited.
Her post was accompanied by photos and videos of herself through the years, from stills of her in character to photos with her former radio co-host, Gerald Koh.
