Nurse, 34, molests male visitor at Raffles Hospital after claiming he wanted to 'disinfect' him
One year and two months' jail.
Pretending to want to "disinfect" the victim after he used the toilet, a Raffles Hospital staff nurse molested a male visitor of a patient.
The 34-year-old nurse, who is an Indian national and was suspended after the offence, pleaded guilty to molestation charges.
He was sentenced to one year and two months' jail and two strokes of the cane on Oct. 24.
What happened
According to The Straits Times (ST), the victim's details were redacted from court documents.
On Jun. 18, the victim was at Raffles Hospital to visit his grandfather, who was a patient there.
At around 7:30pm, the victim entered a patient's toilet.
The nurse, Elipe Siva Nagu, looked inside while he was using the toilet.
Later, giving the excuse of wanting to "disinfect" the victim, Elipe put soap on the victim's hand and molested him, Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugene Phua told the court.
This startled the victim, who froze in shock.
He later returned to his grandfather's bedside.
Court documents did not reveal what followed, ST reported.
The case was reported on June 21.
Elipe was arrested two days later.
In a June 2025 statement, a spokesperson from Raffles Hospital said: "At Raffles Hospital, we take such matters with utmost seriousness and are committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all patients we serve and care for."
