Hawker's hand trapped in sugarcane machine at Clementi food centre, SCDF rescue specialists deployed
The person's hand was eventually freed and she was conveyed to hospital.
A female hawker at Clementi 448 Market & Food Centre was conveyed to the hospital after her right hand got caught in a sugarcane machine.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), they received a call for assistance at 448 Clementi Avenue 3 at 6:50pm on Oct. 10.
A person's right hand was trapped in a sugarcane machine at a stall.
Firefighters and rescue specialists from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team carried out the rescue.
An SCDF paramedic also helped by administering pain-relief medication and monitoring the person's vital signs.
An emergency medical team from Ng Teng Fong General Hospital was also deployed on site to provide medical support, said SCDF.
The woman's hand was eventually freed, and she was conveyed to the National University Hospital.
Heard shouting
One stall owner at the food centre told 8World News that she heard shouting at around 6:40pm, but thought it was due to cockroaches in the area.
Several other hawkers from neighbouring stalls went to investigate and discovered the woman's hand was caught in the sugarcane machine.
The SCDF were quickly called and arrived at the scene within five minutes.
One diner shared with 8World News that they saw police cordoning off the area at around 7:30pm and saw firefighters arrive to dismantle the machine to rescue the trapped woman.
The person was successfully freed at around 8:30pm.
The woman's hand was bandaged before she was assisted into the ambulance to be conveyed to the hospital, said 8World News.
