Malaysia’s Sunway Lagoon is back with its annual Halloween event, Nights of Fright.

Nights of Fright is not just your conventional bucket of scares — it blends Malaysian folklore, regional myths and cinematic horror into one immersive experience.

For its 11th edition this year, Sunway Lagoon promises the “ultimate festival of fear” from Sep. 26 to Nov. 2, every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night.

This year’s edition pushes deeper into Malaysian horror with stories drawn from local urban legends, while also experimenting with new creative concepts that make each house more cinematic, interactive and intense.

There are eight haunted houses, six of which are new, along with three scare zones and one haunted theatre.

Here’s a peek at some of the scariest haunted houses this year.

The Puppetmaker

With the backdrop of the 1875 Venice Carnevale, wander through the candlelit alleyways and cursed corridors of Maestro Velluto’s twisted workshop.

Are the puppets’ eyes moving and did a mannequin just twitch, or is it just your imagination?

Karak - The Kampong Killers

This attraction is inspired by the infamous Karak Highway, which stretches between Kuala Lumpur and Genting.

After a terrible accident in 1990, which involved 12 vehicles and killed 17, the highway has garnered a reputation for being deadly, partly due to its winding roads.

Reports of eerie occurrences on the highway have also arisen since then.

One spooky tale is that a yellow Volkswagen Beetle will mysteriously appear behind unsuspecting drivers. There will be no one behind the wheel of the yellow car.

This Volkswagen features in the haunted house, Karak - The Kampong Killers — guests will follow the car straight into a tunnel that mimics the real life Sempah Tunnel located on the highway.

Fortunes and Freaks

A fan of tarot cards?

Venture into fortuneteller Suzie Wong’s tent and take a peek into your future with her cursed tarot cards.

Her mother’s spirit waits in the wings, and there’re more monstrosities concealed in her tent — a half-spider woman, a pair of conjoined twins and a beheaded magician.

More attractions

Other haunted houses guests can look forward to include the jungle-themed Tiki Terror, The Blind Box, The Freezer 2: High Voltage, Horrorwood Studios: Final Fright, and Legends of Horror.

The live theatre show, Scarytales Theatre featuring Pontianaxe, is a new immersive short film inspired by true events and Southeast Asian folklore.

The story follows Diana, a glamorous 90s pop singer who spirals into black magic and ritual murder. Malaysian actress Nadia Brian will play the axe-wielding character (hence Pontian-axe).

If you’re tired of the scares and are looking for more conventional heart-pumping experiences, there are 13 thrill rides and two live shows spread across the park.
