Cat crossing signs put up in MacPherson Garden Estate to alert drivers to roaming community cats
Cute.
At MacPherson Garden Estate, new signs have been put up to remind drivers to keep an eye out for community cats that roam the estate.
The cat crossing signs were part of a community effort to care for the felines.
A Residents' Network project
Speaking to Mothership, David Loh, a resident of MacPherson Garden Estate, shared that he first pitched the idea to his Member of Parliament, Alex Yeo, in July.
He has been caring for the community cats there for 10 years.
A total of six signs were erected, with two at each of the following junctions:
- Jalan Mulia and Jalan Muhibbah
- Jalan Hiboran and Jalan Mulia
- Jalan Kemanjuan and Jalan Gembira

Cats have been observed to gather near these spots, Loh said.
Based on his observations, about 10 cats roam near the Jalan Hiboran junction, five around Jalan Muhibbah and five around Jalan Kemanjuan.
In a video shared by Loh, one of the community cats could be seen resting in the middle of the road as a lorry turned the corner towards Jalan Hiboran.

After pitching the idea, Loh and the MacPherson Garden Residents' Network worked with the authorities to develop the signs, which went up on Oct. 9.
A cat crossing sign was also put up in Boon Lay previously.
No plans for more signs for now
When asked what fellow residents thought of the signs, Loh said that some have asked about them and agreed that cars were going too fast.
At the moment, there are no plans to put up more cat crossing signs in the MacPherson estate.
Loh shared that he was "happy" that they were now up after four months of work.
"I will monitor the feedback and make improvements," Loh added.
The next issue Loh wishes to tackle in his community is making sure feeders care for the cats responsibly.
"Some feeders still feed the cats in the middle of the road and leave the cat food behind. Trying to solve the problem," Loh said.
