Thai man loses fingers in explosion after neighbour plants bomb on motorcycle over parking lot dispute
His anger was literally explosive.
Police have arrested a 32-year-old Thai man accused of attaching a homemade explosive device to his neighbour’s motorcycle after becoming angry that the vehicle had been parked in his usual parking spot, reported The Thaiger.
The blast seriously injured the victim, who lost three fingers.
The bomb
The incident occurred on the morning of Oct. 7 at an apartment complex in Bangkok.
The victim, 21-year-old Nihasun Lathe, who also works as a food delivery rider, was preparing to leave for work when he noticed a suspicious object tied to the front wheel of his blue motorcycle.
When he tried to remove it, the object exploded, blowing off the thumb, index, and middle fingers of his left hand, according to Thai Rath.
He was rushed to the hospital, where he is now reported to be in stable condition.
Lathe told the police that he had been renting a room in the apartment complex for around 10 months with his wife, who worked at a convenience store.
They said that, to date, they had never had any conflicts with their neighbours or engaged in any disruptive behaviour.
The suspect
Police investigators reviewed CCTV footage, which showed 32-year-old Suthat Denyingyot leaving his room to approach the victim's motorcycle between 4am and 5am.
Witnesses said Denyingyot was known to be irritable and often complained when others used what he considered his "personal parking space".
Following the investigation, officers arrested Denyingyot on Oct. 9 at around 7am.
During questioning, he confessed to making and attaching the device out of anger, saying the victim had parked in the space where he usually kept his pickup truck.
He told police that he had learned to assemble a “giant firecracker” from YouTube videos and social media, and had purchased the materials online.
Police response
Police also seized several items from his apartment, believed to have been used in constructing the explosive, including tape, leftover materials, and the clothing he wore during the incident.
Investigators said the confiscated items will undergo further testing to determine whether the items constituted bomb-making components.
Denyingyot has been charged with causing serious bodily harm, and police said additional charges related to possession or manufacture of explosives may follow, depending on the test results.
He remains in police custody pending further legal proceedings.
