New Thai PM's partner is 39-year-old cafe owner who met him at her store

Thailand has a new prime minister — their third prime minister since 2023.

Anutin Charnvirakul, 58, came to power as his former coalition partner, the Phue Thai Party, saw its own leader, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, ousted by the country’s powerful constitutional court.

Anutin’s Bhumjaithai Party, is the third largest in parliament, and he only managed to gain the position of PM after securing the backing of the People’s Party, the main opposition and parliament’s largest party.

Media attention has also turned to his partner, 39-year-old Supanan Nirasit.

How they met

Anutin, already divorced twice, was a regular at Supanan's cafe, where they got to know each other.

While Supanan said she did not initially feel a spark towards the then-health minister, he won her over with his small actions, including asking her about how her mother was.

It would be two years after they got together that Supanan would introduce Anutin to her family.

They first made public their relationship in 2022.

According to Khaosod English, Supanan describes the prime minister as a "warm, simple, down-to-earth" person with a sense of humour.

She noted that while he could be stern at work, he was looser in his private life, often joking around with her.

In fact, before becoming PM, Anutin apparently joked that he was the “president of the hen-pecked husbands association".

She also praised him for being able to separate work from personal life, and not bring the stress and pressure from work back home.

In fact, here they are quite casually having dinner just a while before Anutin became Thailand's prime minister.
