M'sian technician working in S'pore wins S$22 million M'sia Toto jackpot using family's birthdates
Lucky.
A 53-year-old technician from Johor recently became a multimillionare after winning the jackpot of RM73.1 million (S$22.2 million).
This was the majority of the RM78.5 million (S$23.8 million) that could be won from the Supreme Toto 6/58 jackpot, The Star reported.
The technician works in Singapore, and arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Aug. 20 with his wife and children to collect his winnings, according to The Star.
Lucky family birthdates
The Star added that the jackpot winner usually played Toto 4D and Toto 6D games.
However, after he overheard another player buying a Lucky Pick ticket at a Toto outlet, he decided to try his luck at the Supreme Toto 6/58 game.
Instead of going for the Lucky Pick tickets, he decided to combine his family members' birthdates — 3, 6, 9, 12, 27, and 34.
Those six numbers turned out to be the winning combination.
The man said:
"I could not believe my eyes when I saw all six numbers matched. I was completely stunned. That night I could not sleep at all.
I kept thinking this is truly an answered prayer for me and my family."
The man has decided to use his winnings to settle his housing loan and "clear his financial commitments", while saving the rest for his children's futures.
Other winners
Coincidentally, two other winners from Selangor who shared the remaining amount from the jackpot also used family-related numbers, according to New Straits Times.
They won RM2.09 million (S$637,162) and RM3.32 million (S$1 million) respectively through EZ-Bet tickets.
Another big winner
A few days later on Aug. 24, another man from Johor won RM10.7 million (S$3.2 million) from the Toto 4D Jackpot 1.
The winner, an 88-year-old retired teacher, said he had been faithfully betting on the numbers 2588 and 8453 for years.
The numbers were derived from his age, his wife's age and their house number, The Star wrote.
The man, who previously won several hundred thousand ringgit from Sports Toto games, added that he plans to share his winnings with family and donate part of it to charity.
