The great rejuvenation of China is 'unstoppable': Xi hosts Victory Day Parade as Trump claims conspiracy
"Give my warmest regards...as you conspire against The United States of America."
China's President Xi Jinping affirmed that China is standing strong and continues to value its independence in the face of "external threats".
He made the remarks during a speech at the Victory Day Parade in Beijing on Sep. 3, a celebration of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two.
World leaders from over 25 countries gathered for a parade rife with pomp and circumstance in Tiananmen Square, including Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto.
Peace & war
Reflecting on the 80 years since Japanese troops surrendered in 1945, Xi paid tribute to veteran soldiers and officials who were involved in the war efforts.
He also expressed his gratitude to foreign leaders who had assisted China in their anti-Japanese resistance during World War Two in what he called "major contributions to saving human civilisation and safeguarding world peace".
"History cautions us that humanity rises and falls together," Xi said.
"Today, humanity again has to choose between peace and war, dialogue and confrontation, win-win corporation and zero sum game."
Addressing China's resistance of Japanese aggression during the war, Xi reaffirmed that China will continue to stand on the "right side of history".
He pledged his country's cooperation with other nations, as well as their commitment towards promoting peaceful development.
"The Chinese nation is the great nation that is never intimidated by any bullies and always values independence and forges ahead," he said.
Xi added: "The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable. The noble cause of peace and development for mankind will surely triumph."
Trump lashes out
U.S. President Donald Trump also made his feelings known.
In a Truth Social post in the evening of Sep. 2, he alluded to China's failure to recognise contributions made by the U.S. during the war that he claimed secured its victory.
"The big question to be answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of support and “blood” that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM," he wrote.
"Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory. I hope that they are rightfully Honored and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice!"
He then ended the post on a cryptic note by stating, "Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin, and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America."
The Victory Day celebrations come amidst a backdrop of global geopolitical tensions, including the souring relations between the U.S. and countries like China and Russia due to tariffs imposed by Trump.
