S'pore Zoo chimpanzee throws unidentified object at visitor, may or may not have been poo
Jengo unchained.
A chimpanzee at the Singapore Zoo threw an unidentified object at a visitor taking a video.
The incident was recorded in a TikTok video posted on Aug. 11.
In response to queries from Mothership, a Mandai Wildlife Group spokesperson clarified that the chimpanzee is a 12-year-old male named Jengo, but could not confirm what was thrown.
Incident on TikTok
According to the TikTok post, Jengo suddenly appeared in the video recorded by the visitor.
It then raised one of its arms and threw an unidentified object at the visitor.
TikTok user "itszenn_1" who posted the video, tagged another user "aronnooby" who was described to have been hit with a "sh*tty situation".
The video also had the caption, "my friend working in Mandai zoo sent me this (skull emoji)".
Chimpanzee "not saying" what it threw
The Mandai Wildlife Group spokesperson said in a statement that Jengo was the chimpanzee in the video.
However, it did not specify who took or sent the video, or what was the object that was thrown.
"While (the video) shows (Jengo) throwing something in the direction of the person behind the camera, we're not able to confirm what the object was, who the individual is – Jengo isn't saying," said the spokesperson.
Respect animals
The spokesperson added that animals sometimes react to their surroundings in unexpected ways.
"We encourage visitors to observe the animals calmly and respectfully, avoiding actions like calling, clapping, or trying to get their attention.
"We appreciate guests giving our animals a little space and helping them feel secure in their environment."
New parent
Together with Asha, Jengo is a parent to baby Koda, according to Mandai Wildlife Reserve.
Koda is now around eight months old.
