A 46-year-old man and an 81-year-old man were involved in a kerfuffle after the younger man apparently told the older man that he needed to pick up his dog's faeces in public.

The younger man, surnamed Qiu, alleged that the elderly man then hit him with his bicycle.

The incident took place in the evening on Aug. 29 along Alexandra Park Connector.

Shin Min Daily News reported that a video of the incident provided by Qiu showed the elderly man cycling while his dog on a leash walked.

In the video, the dog had defecated on the grass beside the cycling path, but the elderly man appeared to have turned a blind eye to it.

Noticing this, Qiu approached the elderly man to ask him to pick up his dog's faeces.

However, the elderly man retorted, saying that he did not notice it.

According to Qiu, the elderly man then proceeded to tell him that if he was the one who saw the faeces, then he should be the one to pick it up.

This subsequently resulted in a verbal exchange between the two.

Claimed elderly man hit him with his bicycle

Shin Min reported that Qiu alleged that the elderly man had instructed him to pick up his dog's faeces and the elderly man subsequently hit him with his bicycle, injuring his ankle.

Qiu added that he would see the elderly man in the park about four times a week.

He also said the elderly man did not have any plastic bags on hand, which indicated that he had no intention of cleaning up after his dog.

Elderly man claimed he was bullied

In another video of the incident, the elderly man claimed that he was bullied and he then directed foul language at Qiu, Shin Min reported.

Qiu reportedly lodged a police report and held onto the elderly man's bicycle, preventing him from leaving.

Speaking to Mothership, police confirmed that they received a call for assistance at Block 83 Strathmore Avenue at around 5:05pm.

Qiu sustained minor injuries but did not require medical attention.

Elderly man also accused of damaging NEA's signboard

Qiu also accused the elderly man of damaging a signboard put up by the National Environment Agency (NEA), Shin Min reported.

There are several signboards placed along the park connector that urged dog owners to clean up after their dogs and dispose of the animal faeces in the bins.

Those who failed to comply may be fined up to S$1,000, the sign indicated.

Qiu showed reporters one of the signboards located along Dawson Road, alleging that it had been pulled out and thrown to the side by the elderly man.

Concerns raised over the way the elderly man walked his dog

Qiu also told Shin Min about a group chat that had been set up for dog lovers.

Many members of the group chat said they have seen the elderly man walking his dog in the park more than once, and some were concerned about the way he went about doing it.

One of the members of the group chat said in an interview that even though he had never seen the elderly man failing to clean up his dog's faeces, he was worried about the way he walked his dog.

He said the dog's leash was so short that it felt as if the elderly man was dragging his dog along.
