An Indonesian embassy staff member in Peru, Zetro Leonardo Purba, was shot dead on Sep. 1, according to Tempo Indonesia.

He was shot in front of his apartment building while riding a bicycle on the way home from work.

Video footage shows the assailant wearing a helmet shooting him directly in the head twice before Zetro collapsed on the floor.

A third shot was fired before the assailant escaped with the help of a nearby waiting motorcycle.

There were also images of Zetro's wife squatting beside his lifeless body.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Peru's interior minister has called the incident a "contract killing".

“Nothing was stolen from him, they were waiting for him and the bullets hit him in the head… We are not ruling anything out,” he said on Sep. 2.

According to Al Jazeera, the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its "deepest condolences and deepest condemnation" following Zetro's death.

Zetro was a chancery officer at the embassy in Lima, according to The Guardian.

He moved to Peru about five months ago with his wife and three children.
