Cockroaches try to blend in at Changi Airport Terminal 3 Butterfly Garden
Pesticide cannot be used in the Butterfly Garden.
Changi Airport's Butterfly Garden appeared to house more than just butterflies.
A TikTok put up by @jiahuilifestyle in the early hours of Sep. 10 showed cockroaches blending in at the tourist attraction.
The pests were seen on a pineapple slice and scurrying around on a rock.
Reactions
Some online commenters found humour in this incident as the cockroaches appeared to blend in well.
One quipped that when the cockroaches fly, they can look like butterflies too.
However, some were puzzled as to why the insects were present.
There are four types of cockroaches that can be found locally, according to a bed bug specialist website in Singapore.
They are the American cockroach, German cockroach, brown-banded cockroach, and oriental cockroach.
CAG statement
In response to queries from Mothership, a Changi Airport Group spokesperson said: "We have a proactive pest control routine to upkeep the Butterfly Garden."
The spokesperson added that occasional sightings of other insects can occur as the garden is an open‑air space.
"We will further intensify our preventive efforts to ensure the Butterfly Garden stays safe, clean and enjoyable for all visitors," said the spokesperson.
Mothership understands that pesticide cannot be used at the Butterfly Garden.
Located in T3
The Butterfly Garden in Changi Airport Terminal 3 is the world's first butterfly garden to be located in an airport.
According to Changi Airport's website, the Butterfly Garden features a 6m-high grotto waterfall.
It also houses over 1,000 tropical butterflies from as many as 40 species across different seasons of the year.
In addition, the garden has educational corners and individual enclosures that allow visitors to see the breeding and feeding of butterflies at close range.
