S'pore landlord evicts woman from rented 1-bedroom unit, condoms, hair ties & tissue paper remain on floor
A man in his 40s or 50s signed the rental lease.
A property agent in Singapore recently uploaded a two-minute TikTok about helping a landlord evict a tenant from a one-bedroom apartment.
The cause?
A woman, who was not the person who signed the lease, was occupying the unit and was believed to have used the premises for vice activities.
The tell-tale signs?
Condoms, hair ties, and tissue paper were strewn on the floor after the apartment was cleared out of personal belongings.
Man in his 40s or 50s signed lease
The property agent, 39, surnamed Zheng (transliteration), told Shin Min Daily News that the one-year lease was signed by a man in his 40s or 50s.
He was a local and the information he provided was normal and nothing appeared amiss or raised any red flags, Zheng said.
According to Shin Min, an "organisation" then arranged for the woman to live in the unit, even though she was not involved in signing the lease.
Home owner received complaint from neighbour
The home owner subsequently received a complaint from a neighbour and was informed by the police that a woman was living in the unit, Zheng revealed.
The property agent, who oversaw the rental, was then tasked with evicting the woman occupying the space.
The eviction took place without resistance, it was reported.
Items left behind
All personal belongings were taken away the next day after the eviction notice was issued to the actual tenant, Zheng said, but condoms, hair ties, and tissue paper were strewn on the floor.
"There were still a lot of unopened tissue paper in the drawers," Zheng added.
He deduced that the woman was likely engaging in prostitution.
His advice was for home owners to have good relationships with their neighbours, as they can help provide tip-offs.
Man who signed lease did not dispute eviction notice
When the tenant agreed to move without any objections, Zheng found his reaction unusual.
The property agent added: "The other party's response felt very professional, and there was no objection at all."
Previous eviction cases would see the tenants object or resist, he added.
Zheng also said: "He moved out the next day and did not even ask for the deposit back and just left the key in the unit."
