The incident, which allegedly occurred in Kuala Terengganu, Malaysia on Sep. 8, involved a dark grey Proton and a white police car, both driving at high speed side by side.

In the 24-second clip taken by another motorist behind both cars, the police car could be seen attempting to edge the grey car towards the metal barrier at the side of the road to force it to come to a stop.

From the passenger seat, the police officer leaned out of the window wielding the gun, and aggressively gestured at the other driver to pull over, but to no avail.

The grey car eventually made a sharp left turn onto a dirt road while the police car disappeared out of sight.

Underaged driver

According to The Star, the driver of the Proton was a school student who had driven his brother's car without permission and without a licence.

The 16-year-old had been spotted by the two Mobile Patrol Vehicle (MPV) personnel in the police car after driving "in a suspicious manner" at about 6:30pm, as reported by The Star.

When instructed to stop, the boy reportedly rammed his car into the police vehicle and sped off.

Kuala Terengganu deputy police chief Wan Mohd Zaki Wan Ismail said that the boy "drove dangerously", and that "for safety reasons", the police had to pull out the gun to force the boy to pull over.

He was later arrested, handed a summons and given a stern warning before being released.

The boy's parents were also informed.

Submachine guns are typically used by SWAT teams of the police, as well as by special units in the military for close combat against heavily armed suspects.
