A 34-year-old Singaporean man with a history of drug offences distributed flyers to a Bugis residence that referred to a 30-year-old American resident as a "prat" and had his name and picture printed.

After the man, Christopher Ko Zijie, got into an argument with a security guard who tried to stop him from putting the flyers in the letter boxes in September 2023, the police were called.

The next year, Ko was arrested with a packet of cannabis and a syringe at a Choa Chu Kang block, after which he also tested positive for methamphetamine.

Ko was sentenced to five years and one day of jail, three strokes of the cane and a S$2,000 fine on Sep. 8.

Harassed resident with flyers calling him 'prat'

Court documents seen by Mothership showed that on Sep. 28, 2023, at about 8:30pm, Ko entered Sunshine Plaza Residences by following behind a group of residents.

He then asked a security guard where the letter boxes were.

The guard gave Ko directions but also monitored him as he was suspicious.

Then, the guard saw Ko distributing flyers into the letter boxes, which showed a picture of a man alongside the words, "Wanted. Is this prat your neighbour?"

Seeing this, the guard asked Ko to leave immediately, but Ko refused and continued to slot the flyers into the letter boxes.

The dispute between the two parties got physical, and the police were called for assistance.

Later, when the resident was updated about the incident by the police, he felt harassed by Ko's actions, prosecutors said.

Court documents did not indicate if the two parties were known to each other.

On Aug. 4, 2024, Ko stole one bottle of nasal spray and a 3ml syringe from a pharmacy at 61 Choa Chu Kang Drive.

Investigations showed that he took the items from the store's display shelves and kept them in his shirt sleeve and right pants pocket before leaving the store.

The store attendant lodged a police report two days later.

Ko later made restitution for the items, which were valued at S$11.40.

Arrested after taking drugs at Choa Chu Kang

On Nov. 18, 2024, at about 2:55am, Ko was arrested for drug-related offences.

He was searched by police at 609A Choa Chu Kang Crescent and was found to have a packet containing cannabis and a syringe containing an unknown liquid.

Ko admitted that the items belonged to him and that he had been smoking cannabis before his arrest.

He also said he wanted to smoke more cannabis, but was unable to as he had been arrested.

Two urine samples taken from Ko upon his arrest were found to contain methamphetamine (Ice).

Ko admitted that he consumed Ice at around 11pm on the night of his arrest at the car park of Yew Tee Point.

He said that he had poured the Ice in a syringe and dissolved it in water before inhaling it.

Sentenced to jail

Court documents stated that Ko had previously been admitted to the Drug Rehabilitation Centre twice, in 2018 and 2019, respectively, for drug consumption.

On Sep. 8, 2025, Ko pleaded guilty to four counts, including drug possession, drug consumption, theft and harassment.

Three other charges were taken into consideration for sentencing.

He was sentenced to five years and one day of jail, three strokes of the cane and a S$2,000 fine.
