The devastated family members reportedly shouted and assaulted the taxi driver at the funeral home.
A 17-year-old girl in Taiwan was returning home in a taxi on Aug. 10 when the taxi driver allegedly made an illegal left turn.
The taxi was subsequently struck by a car travelling straight.
The impact threw the girl from the vehicle, and she died on the spot.
It was later revealed that the driver of the second car was operating the vehicle without a valid license.
Both drivers were taken into custody by police for investigation, according to Yahoo News.
Illegal left turn
According to police investigations, the girl, surnamed Zhu, had just finished playing darts with friends at a local dart parlour and called a taxi around 1 am on Aug. 10.
Taiwanese media released footage of the incident, which showed the taxi making an illegal left turn before being struck by another car.
The taxi rolled several times, ejecting Zhu from the vehicle to the ground where she died instantly.
According to CTS News, the taxi driver was found to have an alcohol level of 0.19mg, which was due to his medication and not because he was drink driving.
The driver of the other car was found to be driving without a license.
He sustained only minor injuries.
Tensions at the funeral home
When the taxi driver, surnamed Wu, arrived at the funeral home with police, the victim’s family reportedly shouted at him to kneel.
Wu was seen kneeling with his hands together in a pleading gesture.
Family members rushed to kick and attack him, prompting police to intervene and escort Wu back to the patrol car, according to United Daily News.
However, the victim’s relatives reportedly continued their aggression by striking the police vehicle as well.
