A 23-year-old Rolls-Royce driver who was allegedly drunk crashed her car into a Mercedes in Sydney, Australia, causing the Mercedes driver to be seriously injured.
News.com.au reported that the accident which occurred on Jul. 26 at around 3:30am (SGT 1:30am), happened when the Rolls-Royce driver Yang LanLan collided with a Mercedes that George Plassaras was driving.
Plassaras is radio host Kyle Sandilands' chauffeur.
Severe injuries
According to sinchew.com, Yang was not injured.
However, the accident in New South Head Road in Rose Bay left Plassaras seriously injured. He broke his spine, ribs, both hips and both femurs. He had to be cut from the vehicle before being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a stable condition.
Sandilands, 54, addressed the crash on the KIIS FM’s Kyle & Jackie O show. He said: "Well, that was my driver, George."
Sandilands praised Plassaras for being a great employee as even after the crash, Plassaras asked for his phone to make sure Sandilands was covered for the week.
A Rose Bay resident told news.com.au that he was lying in bed at the time of the accident when he heard a huge bang.
"It set off the alarms of the nearby shops, the sonic boom from the crash was that strong," he said.
When he ran outside, he saw the Mercedes driver "conscious and moving" though the car was "absolutely smashed to pieces". One of his neighbours had already called for help. He added that Yang was standing on the street in pure shock.
Wealthy woman
While Yang's background may be a mystery according to news.com.au, she appears to be very wealthy. Other than her car involved in the crash, she reportedly also owns a white Rolls-Royce Ghost Convertible.
United Daily News reported that according to local residents, Yang's house is filled with branded limited-edition items even though they alleged that they had not seen her working.
According to news.com.au, registration data for Yang's Rolls-Royce Cullinan showed that it was a 2025 model. It ranks fourth in ultimate luxury SUVs and its manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) is around almost US$500,000 (S$650,000).
Drunk driving
According to police, a roadside breathalyser test that Yang took allegedly returned a positive result.
After the crash, Yang was filmed being escorted from the scene in a luxury outfit that included Chanel shoes, a Chanel two-piece and a Miu Miu bucket hat, news.com.au reported.
She left Waverly Police Station later that morning dressed in the same outfit.
Yang was charged with causing bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle and refusal or failure to submit to breath analysis.
She was given conditional bail to appear before the Downing Centre Local Court on Aug. 15. Her bail conditions include not driving a car or leaving her penthouse between the hours of 8pm to 6am.
If found guilty, she may also be ordered to pay Plassaras’ medical and vehicle costs.
