A 39-year-old man has been arrested for his suspected involvement in attempting to hack the government's digital voucher system, RedeemSG.

According to a Singapore Police Force (SPF) news release on Aug. 10, the RedeemSG team filed a police report on Jul. 28 regarding multiple suspicious attempts to access voucher links on the RedeemSG portal.

The attempts were unsuccessful, and no vouchers were compromised.

RedeemSG is the voucher system for the Singapore government, used by several agencies like NEA/PUB and People's Association for the CDC Voucher scheme.

It allows merchants to accept government-issued vouchers and voucher recipients to digitise vouchers.

Officers from the Cybercrime Command and under the Criminal Investigation Department were able to establish the identity of the man within a day of the report.

The man was arrested on Jul. 29, and the laptop used in the offence was seized for further investigations.

The man is being investigated for the offence of Attempted Unauthorised Access to Computer Material.

If found guilty, he could face up to two years' imprisonment, a fine of not more than S$5,000 or both.

Investigations are currently ongoing.

"The police take a serious view of any unauthorised access to government systems. Anyone found to be involved in such activities will be dealt with firmly in accordance with the law," said the police.
