50 people evacuated after fire in Whampoa HDB flat

A fire broke out at an HDB unit at Jalan Bahagia on Aug. 9, leading to 50 people being evacuated from the block.
According to the Singapore Civil Defence Force's (SCDF) Facebook post, the SCDF responded to a fire at around 9:30pm at Block 34 Jalan Bahagia.
When SCDF arrived, one of the bedrooms of a unit on the 6th floor was on fire, and no one was inside the unit.
The firefighters entered the smoke-filled unit and used a water jet to extinguish the fire.
The rest of the unit suffered from heat and smoke damage, and there were no reported injuries.
As a precaution, about 50 people from the block were evacuated by SCDF and the police.
Based on preliminary findings, the likely cause of the fire was an electrical origin in the affected bedroom.
