Over 118,000 traffic violations recorded in 1st half of 2025, over 45% increase from same period in 2024
The TP has described the increase as a worrying trend.
There were more than 118,000 traffic violations recorded in the first half of 2025, marking an increase of 45.5 per cent from the same period last year, which had 81,100 violations.
"This is a worrying trend," the head of the Traffic Police's (TP) research, planning and organisational development, Lian Weixiong, said, Asiaone reported.
The whole of 2024 also marked a 10-year high in speeding violations with 201,400 violations recorded.
In addition, despite the progressive activation of the speed enforcement function in more red-light cameras since April 2024, the first half of 2025 has shown no signs of improvement, the TP said.
Since the function's activation, the cameras have detected more than 42,400 speeding violations.
Lian said the TP intends to "pull out all the stops" and will intensify enforcement efforts and outreach programmes to tackle the issue.
Companies using lorries urged to install speed limiters
The TP also called on companies using lorries to install speed limiters so as to avoid delays due to limited workshop capacity.
From Jan. 1, 2026, all lorries with a mass laden weight (MLW) between 3,501kg and 12,000kg (inclusive) must be equipped with speed limiters in order to be approved for use in Singapore.
According to the TP, lorries with speed limiters have recorded near-zero speeding violations in the first half of 2025, while those without recorded 641 violations.
This is also an increase of 13.5 per cent from the same period in 2024.
Lian was further quoted as saying, ""Every road user needs to exercise greater responsibility together. We must act now to prevent more lives from being put at risk on our roads."
