M'sian man, 30, told wife he was going fishing, caught cheating with woman, 50, in hotel instead
He did go fishing, just not for fish.
A married Malaysian man, 30, was caught cheating with a 50-year-old single woman in a Johor motel after telling his wife he was going fishing.
World of Buzz reported that the Johor Religious Department (JAINJ) caught them for "khalwat" at a motel in Muar, Johor during a raid on Aug. 7.
Khalwat — being in close proximity with a member of the opposite sex who is not one's spouse or close relative — is an offence under Syariah law.
Both have children
According to the spokesperson of JAINJ, the man is married with two children.
The single mother has three children.
Paid more for a room
Though the man wanted to rent a motel room at a cheaper rate, he was afraid of getting caught by officers from JAINJ since motels are popular spots for such raids.
In an attempt to avoid getting caught, the man paid more, RM240 (around S$72) for a one-night stay at the hotel.
JAINJ said in a Facebook post: "The amount spent on the hotel room was not an issue for the man because he makes around RM4,000 a month, and he had just received his monthly salary."
Punishment for khalwat
The pair who were detained for "khalwat" will be investigated for Section 27 of the Johor Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1997.
If convicted, both face a fine of not more than RM3,000 (S$909) and a jail term of not more than two years.
