S'porean powerlifter Farhanna Farid, 32, deadlifts 217kg, beats own record for 11th time

Singaporean powerlifter Farhanna Farid, 32, has broken her own deadlift world record for the 11th time.

At the World Games 2025 held in Chengdu, China, Farhanna deadlifted 217kg in the women's lightweight final on Aug. 14.

This was nearly 8kg more than her previous world record of 209.5kg set in Chemnitz, Germany in June 2025.

Farhanna also lifted 147.5kg in the squat and 70kg in the bench press for an overall sixth-place finish in the final.

The winner was France's Tiffany Chapon, with New Zealand's Megan-Li Smith and Evie Corrigan taking silver and bronze, respectively.

Farhanna's successful world record deadlift attempt was shown in a clip posted by the Instagram account of the Singapore Consulate-General in Chengdu, and shared on Farhanna's Instagram.

After breaking the world record, Farhanna ran over to hug her husband and handler, James Barcelo, to celebrate.

A small group of travelling Singapore fans were also seen cheering for her from the stands.

"Congrats to Farhanna Farid, who broke the world record (which she set in June) by deadlifting 217 kg here at the Chengdu World Games!" the post's caption read.

Background

Farhanna first claimed the world record at the World Open Classic Powerlifting Championships in Sun City, South Africa, in June 2022.

That day, she lifted 197kg and 200.5kg to break the record not once, but twice.

Over the next three years, Farhanna has regularly rewritten her own world records.

On one such occasion in December 2023, the Singaporean broke her own world record twice with 203.5kg and 208kg deadlifts at the Asian Classic Powerlifting Championships in Johor Bahru.
