Man, 20, sentenced to 18 months' probation for lewd act with cat at HDB corridor & bullying course mate
He was also ordered to complete 70 hours of community service.
A 20-year-old man was sentenced to 18 months' probation on Jul. 11, after he admitted to performing a lewd act on a cat at a public housing block in Bukit Panjang and bullying a course mate with special needs.
The man, who cannot be named due to a gag order protecting the victim's identity, was also ordered to complete 70 hours of community service and prohibited from visiting public spaces between 10pm and 6am, reported Lianhe Zaobao.
His mother was required to place a S$5,000 bond to ensure his good behaviour.
The man faced a total of six charges, including one count of committing an obscene act in public, one count of voluntarily causing hurt, two counts of theft, and one count of harassment.
He pleaded guilty to three of the charges in May 2025, with the rest of the charges taken into consideration for his sentencing.
A probation suitability report called by the court at the time deemed the man suitable for probation.
Lewd act with cat occurred in 2023
According to court documents seen by Mothership, the man was 19 years old when he performed a sexual act on a cat along a common corridor at a Bukit Panjang public housing block on Apr. 8, 2023.
As he resided in the same area as the cat and its owner, the man had come across the cat on numerous occasions and knew that the cat could be routinely seen outside its owner's flat.
Upon seeing the cat outside the flat on the day of the incident, the man patted the cat and fed it some cat food he found on a shelf outside the flat.
However, while the cat was consuming its food at around 1:52am, the man got sexually aroused by the cat.
Caught on CCTV camera
After checking that there was no one around him, the man knelt beside the cat, lowered his shorts, and committed the act.
The entire process took around 10 seconds, and the cat eventually managed to scuttle away from the man.
The man stood up and pulled up his shorts before picking up the cat and rubbing it over his shorts.
The process lasted about three seconds, and the cat jumped out of his grasp.
Although the man tried to catch the cat, it managed to squirm away.
The man left the scene shortly after, but his deeds were caught by a CCTV camera installed at a neighbouring unit.
Bullied course mate with special needs in 2022
The man was also accused of bullying a course mate with special education needs in 2022.
According to court documents, the victim, who is the same age as the man, has a mild intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder.
The man, who did not like the victim, would "constantly and openly" pick on him, including by verbally abusing him in person and online, tripping him up in class, hitting him, and demanding money from him.
As the man also threatened to hurt the victim if he were to inform anyone of his ordeal, the victim did not dare to stand up or report the man out of fear for his safety.
On one occasion in March 2022, the man also sent a series of threatening and abusive text messages to the victim over the MS Teams chat application, which included phrases such as, "I will f*cking kill u" and "ugly piece of shit".
Slapped course mate
In November 2022, the man became irritated after seeing the victim resting his head against their coursemate's bag.
Shortly after, he followed the victim into a toilet and asked him why he had to rest his head against the bag.
When the victim did not know how to answer the question and kept quiet, the man became angry and slapped the victim once in the face.
Although the victim felt pain from the slap, he did not seek medical attention.
The man's offence came to light after the victim's father chanced upon the threatening messages the man sent to the victim and lodged a police report.
