Warning: The following story may be distressing, as it depicts scenes of animal cruelty.

The teenager who was caught humping a cat in Bukit Panjang has pleaded guilty on May 23 to doing an obscene act in public.

Now 20 years old, the accused was first caught on closed-circuit television (CCTV) on Apr. 8, 2023, at around 1:51am with his pants down and humping the cat's behind.

He also pleaded guilty in unrelated incidents to hurting a 19-year-old classmate with special needs and harassing him.

Another count of voluntarily causing hurt and two counts of theft will also be considered for sentencing.

The accused cannot be named due to a gag order on his identity and the classmate.

Humped cat

According to court documents seen by Mothership, the accused, who resided in the same area as the cat and its owner, knew that the cat could be routinely seen outside the flat, having come across it on numerous occasions.

On Apr. 8, 2023, he saw the cat outside the flat and decided to play with it.

He first patted the cat and fed it some cat food that he found on a shelf outside the flat.

At about 1:52am, while the cat was consuming its food, the accused got sexually aroused by the cat and felt the urge to hump it.

Looking around to make sure there was no one in the vicinity, he knelt beside the cat and lowered his shorts.

He then proceeded to hump the cat. The cat eventually managed to scuttle away from the accused.

This entire sequence took about 10 seconds, according to court documents.

The accused then stood up and pulled up his shorts before picking the cat up and humping it over his shorts.

This lasted about three seconds before the cat jumped out of his grasp.

Though he attempted to catch the cat again, it managed to squirm away.

He then left the scene shortly after.

Caught on CCTV

Unbeknownst to the accused, his acts were caught on a neighbouring flat’s CCTV camera.

The neighbour then showed the cat owner the CCTV footage, leading him to post the footage on social media in hopes of identifying the accused.

On Apr. 11, a police report was also made by a member of public who saw the video circulating online.

The police established the accused’s identity and arrested him on that same day.

Meanwhile, the cat owner sent the cat to a a veterinarian, who found that the cat did not sustain any injury.

However, the owner noticed that the cat appeared to be reluctant to remain outside the flat after the incident.

Bullying

In unrelated incidents, the man was also accused of bullying a coursemate of the same age in 2022.

According to court documents, the victim was a student with special education needs, as he has a mild intellectual disability and autism spectrum disorder.

The accused did not like the victim and would constantly bully the victim, both physically and in cyberspace.

Being of a bigger build than the victim, he would "constantly and openly" pick on the victim.

This included verbally abusing and threatening the victim both in person and in online chats, tripping him up in class, hitting him, and demanding money from him.

The victim did not dare to stand up to or report the accused for fear of his safety, as the accused had threatened to hurt him if he informed his parents, teachers or anyone else.

Some instances of the accused’s bullying were reported to the school authorities by their coursemates.

When counselled, the accused would acknowledge and apologise for his actions, but the bullying continued.

On one occasion on Mar. 31, 2022, the accused exchanged text messages with the victim over the MS Team chat application.

The accused sent a series of threatening and abusive texts to the victim, including phrases such as "I will f*cking kill u" and "Ugly piece of shit".

The victim felt harassed and alarmed by the accused’s text messages but did not dare inform his parents or teachers.

Slapping coursemate

Some time on Nov. 23, 2022, the accused and the victim were in class when he saw the victim resting his head against one of their coursemate’s bag and got irritated by this.

Shortly after, the accused followed the victim into the toilet, where he asked the victim why he had to rest his head against the bag.

The victim did not know how to answer the accused and kept quiet.

Angered by this, the accused slapped him once on the face.

Although the victim felt pain from the slap, he did not seek medical attention.

The victim’s father only chanced upon the messages from the earlier incident in 2023 and lodged a police report on Mar. 10, 2023.

The accused is set to be sentenced on Jul. 11, 2025.
