Changi Airport also posted on its social media to alert the public about the possibility of flights to and from Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macau being affected.

In a statement on Jul. 19, Cathay Pacific announced that all flights arriving in Hong Kong between 5am and 6pm (Hong Kong time) on Jul. 20 will either be delayed or cancelled.

The airline added that affected customers will have their flights automatically rebooked onto the next available flight. It is also waiving its ticket change and cancellation fees.

More about Typhoon Wipha

The Hong Kong observatory issued No. 10 signal for Typhoon Wipha and this means that the wind is blowing or is expected to blow with sustained speeds of 118km/h and above, South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported.

The last typhoon of No. 10 signal was Super Typhoon Solar in 2023, which had caused 86 injuries and two landslides, according to SCMP.

More than 200 flights have since been cancelled.

On Jul. 20, Macau's Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau lowered the No. 10 signal to No. 8 as local winds weakened.

The Hong Kong observatory issued a red rainstorm signal at 3:45pm local time, as the powerful typhoon is expected to bring frequent heavy squally showers to the city, SCMP updated. The highest level of warning remains in force, at the time of writing.
