It was supposed to be romantic, but it landed her in the hospital.

May Chang, who is based in Singapore, hopped on the viral Chongqing motorbike trend while visiting the Chinese city, and ended up dislocating her ribs.

Viral trend

Made popular by Chinese influencers, the trend starts with a woman getting snatched off the streets and picked up around the midriff by a man in a dramatic hug in Chongqing.

It then transitions to the pair racing down the road on a motorcycle, under the dazzling night skyline of Raffles City.

Chang had no accidents during the thrilling bike ride.

Rather, she was injured before that, when the man she got to film the video with her grabbed her for the hug.

Did not discuss what to do

Sharing the experience in an Instagram video, Chang said she did not discuss clearly with the man beforehand how they should stand during the stunt.

When he grabbed her, the impact was so great that it hurt three of her anterior ribs, one of which was slightly displaced.

Chang revealed that she weighs 55kg and the man had grabbed her with one arm.

She could be seen lifted off the ground, as seen in a slow-motion video.

Went to hospital

The day after the stunt, she went to a hospital in Chongqing for a CT scan, and had her ribs bandaged.

In the video, she described the experience as a lesson learnt, and warned others who want to attempt the trend to be very careful.

"As long as you're careful, it's still fun," she added.
