He is also charged with failing to present his Singapore passport when leaving Singapore.
A former inmate who starred in CNA's prison documentary "Inside Maximum Security" in 2022 has re-offended and is facing new charges.
According to chargesheets seen by Mothership, Graceson Ang, 40, is facing three charges in total.
His charges include failing to present his Singapore passport to an immigration officer when departing Singapore to Malaysia via Woodlands Checkpoint in March 2023.
He is also charged with making a false statement electronically when applying for a Singapore passport online.
His third charge is for importing mini LED flashlight stun guns in a parcel on Mar. 7, 2023.
At the time of the importation, Ang was under a remission order for the period from Nov. 19, 2022 to Jan. 19, 2025.
Investigations ongoing
According to CNA, Ang appeared in court via video-link from his place of remand in a white shirt, looking down and not saying much.
The prosecutor sought another two weeks' adjournment, saying it was a joint case with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority and the Singapore Customs, and Central Narcotics Bureau have yet to complete their investigations.
Ang's lawyer said he would be meeting Ang the next day on Jul. 25.
The case was adjourned for investigations to be completed.
For leaving Singapore without presenting a passport, Ang could be jailed for up to six months, fined up to S$1,000, or both.
For making a false statement in his passport application, he could be jailed for up to 10 years, fined up to S$10,000, or both.
For importing stun guns, a first-time offender can be fined up to S$100,000 or three times the value of the goods, and jailed up to two years or both.
Repeat offenders can be fined up to S$200,000 or four times the value of the goods, and jailed up to three years or both.
Appeared in prison documentary
Ang first came to the public eye when he appeared in a documentary by CNA in 2022, showcasing the lives of inmates in prison.
His story was particularly well-received as he candidly shared his fears about his wife asking for a divorce and his concerns for his children.
He was previously jailed for carrying weapons, drug consumption and criminal intimidation.
Ang also appeared in a follow-up series documenting his life after prison.
“Before I want to do anything, I’ll think of my family first. I promised them I wouldn't leave them again," he had said then.
