Two men have been found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting a woman in a hotel room in Singapore.

The younger of the men, 50, had previously worked with the victim and was her superior.

Both were convicted in the Supreme Court on Jul. 22 for their crimes.

The identities of both men and the victim cannot be revealed due to a gag order by the court on key information that could identify the victim.

The two men are both foreign nationals, according to court documents.

What happened

The ex-colleague and the victim continued to keep in contact after they stopped working together.

They had initially arranged to meet for dinner at a restaurant in Singapore on Feb. 26, 2023, but later changed their plans to meet at the ex-colleague's hotel.

He also instructed the victim to bring with her "three or four cans of tonic" to make a gin and tonic mixer, which he had been drinking with the second man, and another woman throughout the afternoon.

The two men had reportedly been friends for 20 years, court documents revealed.

Plied her with alcohol

After the victim arrived at the room, both men began to offer her alcohol.

The conversations between all three parties eventually turned sexual, which the victim told the court she felt uncomfortable with and tried to redirect the conversation.

Shortly after, the victim lost consciousness.

She briefly regained consciousness as she vomited lying on her side on her bed, still clothed.

Sexual assault

As the victim drifted in and out of consciousness, she told the court that she was aware of being undressed by someone, followed by being intimately touched at various parts of her body, including feeling an extreme pain from being penetrated.

The victim testified that she said "no" multiple times while the assault was ongoing, but was unable to open her eyes.

At 3am, she woke up and realised that her pubic hair had been shaved.

She repeatedly asked the older man why she was naked, why he showered her, why her pubic hair was removed, and where her ex-colleague was.

The older man replied that, “You vomited. We cleaned you. We helped you.”

When the victim further asked why she was cleaned, and said she thought she was raped, the older man said that because she vomited, "we helped you. We cleaned you.”

She then left the room, and made her way back to her hotel with the older man's help.

Once back to her own room, she searched what she needed to do if she had been raped, as well as the legal consequences of rape in Singapore, and also the number for the police.

The victim explained that she wanted to know the legal consequences of rape in Singapore as she thought her ex-colleague might be implicated.

When she found out the severity of the consequences, she said she was hesitant to make a report as she did not want him to suffer these consequences. This was on account of how he had been her mentor previously, and she knew that he had two children who were living with him.

The men also conducted searches online after the incident.

On Mar. 11, the ex-colleague searched up questions like "Do fingers in vagina leave dna" and "does shower after sex reduce dna testing".

On Mar. 2, the older man searched up questions like "trick.questions.in rape cases" and "polygraph test tips".

Victim sought help immediately

On Feb. 27, the victim proceeded to Raffles Hospital for a medical examination to confirm if she had been sexually assaulted, and was referred to KK Women’s and Children's Hospital (KKH).

KKH later lodged a police report.

Both men were arrested on the same day.

Charges

Both men were convicted on Jul. 22, 2025.

The ex-colleague was handed three charges, one charge each of molestation, sexual assault, and obstructing justice.

The older man was handed six charges for his crimes, including rape, sexual assault, possessing an intimate photo of the victim, and obstruction of justice.

Judge Hoo Sheau Peng reportedly found the victim to be an "unusually convincing witness" and accepted that she did not provide any valid consent to sexual activities with the two men.

The two men's claim that the sex they had with the victim was consensual, but that she had forgotten about the consent to due to alcohol intake, was also rejected by the judge.

The judge also called the men's accounts of the events surrounding the sexual activities "replete with issues".

The men will be sentenced at a later date.
