M'sia university student murder: Housemate's boyfriend had 'ill intentions' towards victim, says M'sia police
He had keys to her dorm unit.
The main suspect in the murder of a 20-year-old female university student in Cyberjaya, Malaysia on Jun. 24 is her housemate's boyfriend, according to local police.
The victim was discovered with injuries on her body by a friend about 10am, and the police were alerted immediately.
Housemate gave her boyfriend keys to house
The victim's housemate is believed to have given her boyfriend keys to the student hostel unit the day of the murder.
The housemate herself had gone back to her home town.
“The main suspect had apparently stayed overnight previously,” Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said, according to The Star.
“On the night of the incident, the suspect was given the access card and keys as he wanted to stay there again, while the girlfriend had gone back to her hometown.
However, the suspect had "ill intentions" towards the victim and hit her using an object, he added.
While there is no evidence of rape so far, investigation is ongoing to find any proof of sexual assault.
“We are also investigating the motive behind the murder,” he said.
Items stolen
Several of the victim's valuables, including her laptop, mobile phone, ATM card, and cash were reportedly missing.
Police later found that the suspect used the victim's bank card to make five to six ATM withdrawals after her death.
“We discovered that he had withdrawn RM200 using her ATM card,” Hussein added.
Police said that one man and three women aged 19 and 20 have been arrested in connection to the murder.
The case is expected to be handed over to the deputy public prosecutor soon.
