If you're on social media enough, you might have chanced upon a guy in a red beret dramatically flipping omurice with flair.

Chef Motokichi Yukimira, who is known for his viral theatrical cooking performances, will be allowing a select few to taste his cooking in person this July.

The exclusive experience is part of a collaboration between Tsukimi Hamburg and Kichi Kichi Omurice.

The dishes will be permanent fixtures on Tsukimi Hamburg’s refreshed menu at its Jurong Point outlet.

The Japanese chef will also be having a meet-and-greet at the outlet from Jul. 11 to 12, which is limited to 40 pax a day.

The experience

Having never tried Kichi Kichi Omurice in Kyoto due to its notoriously long queues, I was thrilled to finally experience it firsthand in Singapore.

When I visited the outlet on Jul. 10, I was warmly greeted by the man himself, who was all smiles for the camera.

It was impressive to see the 69-year-old still making omurice with such precision and flair - every movement sharp, showy, and clearly honed through years of performance.

His infectious energy was a show in itself, instantly lighting up the space and drawing eyes even before the food hit the plate.

The cheeky chef then served us his latest curated dish, the Kichi Kichi Hamburg Omurice (S$16.80++).

The dish comprises demiglace fried rice with edamame and chicken, a fluffy omelette shaped in the form of a spiral tornado, topped with a hamburg steak.

Taking a bite, the omelette was creamy and complemented the rice and demi-glace sauce well.

However, the hamburg steak truly stole the spotlight; perfectly juicy and tender in texture.

As a huge fan of Japanese cuisine, I'd say the price is pretty reasonable considering the quality of ingredients used and the generous sides included here.

My only gripe was that the rice had a bit of an oily aftertaste after a few bites in.

Although the omurice is nothing out of this world, Yukimira's theatrics and interactions truly make up for the unique experience.

Here's him and his wife dancing to their restaurant's very own theme song:
