'May our support help bring us closer to a just & lasting resolution': Faishal Ibrahim on S'pore backing 2-state solution for Palestine & Israel
"May our support help bring us closer to a just and lasting resolution."
Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs and Senior Minister of State for Ministry of Home Affairs Muhammad Faishal Ibrahim has commented on Singapore's stance on the situation in Gaza.
In a Facebook post on Jul. 30, Faishal expressed support for a peaceful resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
This comes after Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) Deputy Secretary (Asia-Pacific) Kevin Cheok delivered Singapore's National Statement at a United Nations (UN) conference in New York, U.S. on Jul. 29, sharing that Singapore is prepared in principle to recognise the State of Palestine.
Reiterated support for a two-state solution
In his post, Faishal reiterated Singapore's support for a two-state solution and affirms that the Singapore government is taking a principled humanitarian stance on the situation.
"We firmly believe in the right of Palestinians to a homeland of their own based on the negotiated two-state solution, a future where Palestinians and Israelis live side by side, in peace, security and dignity."
He acknowledged that there will be challenges, but stressed that effort has to be made, even if the results take time to show.
Ready and willing to support Gaza
Delivering Singapore's National Statement at the UN conference, Cheok stated that the two-state solution is the only viable pathway to achieving a "comprehensive, just and durable solution" to the conflict.
In support of this, Faishal added in his post that Singapore is ready to support the reconstruction of Gaza, on the condition that "a permanent ceasefire is secured".
This reaffirms Singapore's view that peace and security for both Israelis and Palestinians are essential.
Faishal also reiterated the country's stance on a diplomatic and peaceful resolution, ending his statement with "may our small but big-hearted nation continue to stand for what is right, with compassion, with resolve, and with hope for a better future for all".
