In an interview with 8world, the 39-year-old revealed that she was informed about her grandmother's condition while she was at the awards show.
Yeoh, known for her role as Kang Si Li in "Emerald Hill", was expecting to win her first award in her 20-year acting career.
The actress contemplated leaving the ceremony to see her grandmother who was hospitalised.
"In the end, I decided to stay. I was hoping to bring a 'Top 10 Most Popular Female Artist' award to give to my grandmother in the hospital," she said.
Unfortunately, Yeoh did not manage to win the award and went back empty-handed.
As a result, she missed the opportunity to see her grandmother for the last time.
In a tribute to her grandmother, she said:
"I won't get beaten down. Instead, I will get stronger with every defeat. I will keep working hard, and I hope I can 'visit' you with an award next year. Please rest well in heaven and continue to watch all my dramas. Thank you for all the love you've given me, we'll definitely meet again, Ah Ma,"
