Alleged sex workers have been seen hanging around and openly soliciting customers along Orchard Road.

According to Shin Min Daily News, they had received a tip-off a few months ago that skimpily-dressed women had been gathering along the street in front of Forum The Shopping Mall at Orchard Road, and were openly soliciting customers.

Would approach men who glanced at them repeatedly

A Shin Min Daily News reporter recently visited the area at night and noticed that there were about 10 women sitting on the stone benches and stairs along the street.

The women were dressed in revealing clothes and appeared to be waiting for opportunities to strike conversations with the men who walked past them.

The women appeared to be between 20 and 40 years old and were waiting at different locations along the street.

Some were sitting alone, while others were seated in groups of two or three.

When they noticed men glancing at them repeatedly, the women would reportedly get up and approach them.

"Be my boyfriend tonight"

According to Shin Min Daily News, the women would approach the men and flirt with them playfully, teasing them by saying things like, "Be my boyfriend tonight".

They would also put their arms around the men's shoulders and behave in an intimate manner.

The Shin Min reporter observed the group of women had attracted the attention of some men, who stopped to negotiate prices with them.

The reporter noted that both parties typically reached an agreement within five minutes, after which they walked to a nearby bus stop or taxi stand to leave together.

The women are mostly Vietnamese

An anonymous reader, who worked around the area, had told Shin Min Daily News that he noticed the gathering of these purported sex workers along the street three months ago. He said most of them are Vietnamese.

However, the reader expressed concerns that most of the tourists travelling to Singapore are families, and he is afraid that this would damage Singapore's reputation.

He added that the women would usually gather at around 11pm, with some staying till about 1am, or even 3am or 4am.

He said the highest number of women he had seen gather along the street was around 20 to 30.

Target foreigners

The Shin Min Daily News reporter noted that there were many people drinking and chatting in the area but the women were targeting foreigners that were walking by.

The reporter had observed three women approaching a foreigner at the same time after seeing him.

However, the man left after saying a few words to them.

Several migrant workers were also seen approaching the women, but they left after they were unable to agree on a price.
