2 Americans arrested for allegedly stealing perfumes & LV card holder, worth S$1,242, from Changi Airport
For theft, an offender could be given a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine, or both.
Two American nationals were arrested for allegedly stealing at retail shops in the transit area of Changi Airport Terminal 1 and 3.
The 35-year-old man and 30-year-old woman were charged in court on Jul. 23.
What happened
The Singapore Police Force (SPF) said they were alerted to a case of shop theft at “The Shilla Cosmetics & Perfumes” outlet in Terminal 1 at around 5:45pm on Jun. 23.
Preliminary investigations found that the man allegedly took three bottles of perfume with a total value of S$488 from the outlet’s display shelf and exited the store without paying.
Staff discovered the perfumes were missing during their stocktake.
Police officers managed to establish the identities of the duo and arrested them through the use of CCTV cameras and follow-up investigations before they could depart from Singapore.
Further investigations revealed the man also stole a Louis Vuitton card holder, valued at S$596.33, at Changi Airport Terminal 1, as well as a S$158.40 bottle of perfume from another Shilla outlet at Terminal 3.
The woman would act as a lookout during the thefts.
All five stolen items were recovered from the duo, police said.
For theft, the man could be given a maximum jail term of seven years, a fine, or both.
For assisting in the crime, the woman could be given up to five years in jail and a fine.
