A 32-year-old man from Ipoh, Malaysia, Guo Jia Huang (transliteration), has been in a coma for more than 20 days after getting into a serious accident along Seletar Expressway (SLE) on Jun. 25.

Two cars collided with Guo's motorcycle

Shin Min Daily News reported that Guo was sending his girlfriend, Lin Ying Ying (transliteration), 37, from Johor Bahru to work on his motorcycle when they were involved in an accident with two cars.

As a result of the impact, both Guo and Lin were thrown off the bike.

The accident occurred at around 5:15am on Jun. 25, 2025, along SLE, heading towards Central Expressway (CTE), before the Seletar West Link exit.

Driver responsible has been arrested

According to Shin Min Daily News, the car responsible for the accident had initially collided with the other car, and the sudden collision had caused Guo's motorcycle to crash directly into them.

The police have since arrested the 30-year-old driver responsible on the charges of drunk and negligent driving and investigations are underway.

In response to Mothership's queries, police said a 30-year-old male car driver was arrested for drink-driving and careless driving without due care and attention. Police investigations are ongoing.

Guo and Lin both sustained several injuries

In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, Lin recalled being thrown onto the road during the crash.

When she managed to get back up, she noticed that Guo was unconscious; his nose was bleeding but he was still breathing.

She then cautiously removed his helmet from his head and saw that his ears were also bleeding.

Lin also sustained several injuries in the accident.

Her right hand was fractured, and her legs and back were scratched and bruised from sliding across the road after being thrown off the motorcycle.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed that both Guo and Lin were sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment following the accident.

The couple had planned to get married next year

Lin told Shin Min Daily News that she and Guo had been dating for seven years and had planned to register their marriage next year.

However, she never expected something like this to happen.

Guo is currently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

Guo's younger brother, Guo Jia Sheng (transliteration), told Shin Min Daily News that his elder brother had sustained severe injuries, including brain trauma and bleeding, and that he has been in a coma since the accident.

He added that Guo had undergone three surgeries so far; two for his brain injuries and one for his fractured right shoulder.

He said that initially, despite not waking up after the operation, Guo's condition had improved and he was transferred to the general ward.

However, the hospital later informed his family on Jul. 9 that Guo's condition has taken a turn for the worse: he was unable to breathe and there was a buildup of fluid within his brain.

As a result, Guo was transferred back to the ICU for further treatment and has remained there since.

Guo's family is worried about high medical expenses

According to Shin Min Daily News, Lin, who is from Penang, Malaysia, works at a local food factory.

Guo's brother also added that Guo had left home at 19 to earn a living in Singapore and had been working in the food and beverage industry for several years.

He told Shin Min Daily News that what worries the family the most now is the high medical costs of Guo's treatment, which will reportedly come to about S$80,000 to S$90,000. He said that although they have paid more than $30,000, the medical costs have stretched the family to the limit.
