S'pore World Aquatics event at Sentosa to proceed today after water quality improves
Significant improvement.
The World Aquatics Championships in Singapore will proceed on Jul. 16, after water quality levels at Sentosa showed "significant improvement".
Levels of E. coli fell between the range of "good" and "excellent", according to samples taken on Jul. 15 at 5pm.
The men's 10km open water swimming race will start at 1pm on Jul. 16, and the women's 10km at 4pm.
The event takes place at Sentosa's Palawan Green.
"Regular water quality monitoring and testing continues throughout the competition period to ensure athlete safety, with the health and safety of all participants continuing to guide all competition-related decisions," World Aquatics said in a statement on their website.
Rescheduled event
The event was initially scheduled for Jul. 15, but was cancelled and postponed due to water quality levels "exceeding acceptable thresholds".
The decision was made in the interest of athlete safety, World Aquatics said.
Tickets issued for the women's 10km event remain valid, while ticketholders who wish to request a refund may do so by emailing Sistic at [email protected].
The next event, the men's and women's 5km, will take place on Jul. 18.
