An baby trafficking ring was busted by Indonesian authorities on Jul. 14, 2025.
12 suspects were arrested. Police also rescued six babies, aged between two and three months old, who were supposed to be sent abroad.
According to CNA, there were plans to allegedly send five of these six babies to Singapore.
15 other babies reportedly sold to Singapore
Local media reported that the case had been uncovered following public reports about suspicious activities at a baby shelter in East Bandung.
At the house, the police had found the babies, who had been brought from a shelter in Pontianak.
The director of general criminal investigation said based on preliminary findings, 24 babies had been trafficked.
The operation included roles such as "initial recruiters", baby shelter operators and document forgers.
The babies were bought from their biological mothers for around 11 million to 16 million rupiahs (S$865 to S$1258).
Indonesian authorities told CNA that of the 24 babies sold, 15 were reportedly taken to Singapore.
Mothership has reached out to the Ministry of Home Affairs for comment.
