Hougang hit by power outage, power restored in around 15 minutes: SP Group

Several areas in Hougang had their electricity disrupted for a short while in the morning of Jun. 2.

Power went out at around 11:14am and was fully restored by 11:28am, SP Group wrote in a statement on Facebook.

Reports of the outage online

Posts popped up on Reddit shortly after 11am as users asked whether others in Hougang and beyond were also experiencing it.

According to one user, the outage affected their entire building, rendering the lift inoperable.

Others, including one who said they were in Kovan, added that power came back within 10 minutes.

Facebook user August Gan shared that he was at a food court in Hougang RiverCourt when the lights went out.

Other social media comments stated that areas of Sengkang was affected as well.

Response from SP Group

In their statement, SP Group said that their officers were immediately deployed to the affected areas to restore power safely and quickly.

They apologised for the incident and said that they are investigating the cause.
