M'sian man, 28, tries to touch auxiliary officer's gun at Woodlands Checkpoint, gets jail
He tried to touch the guns of two auxiliary police officers.
While passing through Woodlands Checkpoint towards Malaysia, a 28-year-old man grew curious about the contents of an auxiliary police officer's gun.
Wanting to find out if it contained bullets, he reached out towards the officer's gun and tried to touch it, Lianhe Zaobao reported.
The Malaysian, who was working in Singapore as an SMRT bus driver at the time, was arrested.
He was sentenced to six weeks' jail on Jun. 16.
Curious about gun
The court heard that the accused, Fazli, was at Woodlands Checkpoint on May 6 at about 3:50pm.
He walked towards the officer who was standing guard, and spoke to him in Malay.
When the officer did not appear to understand, he asked in English: "Do you have bullets in your pistol?"
He then immediately reached out to touch the man's gun.
In response, the officer held on to the gun with both hands to stop him and called for help.
But when another auxiliary police officer arrived to assist, Fazli reached out for the second officer's gun, too.
He was arrested that afternoon and handed two charges of using criminal force to obstruct a public servant in the discharge of their duty.
He pleaded guilty to one of the charges; the second was taken into consideration.
For using criminal force to obstruct a public servant in the discharge of their duty, he could have been jailed up to six months, fined up to S$2,500, or both.
