A 27-year-old motorcyclist died after an accident with a lorry at the junction of Loyang Way and Loyang Lane on Jun. 8.

The police confirmed with Mothership that they were alerted to the accident at about 5:20pm that day.

The male motorcyclist was conveyed unconscious to the hospital, where he subsequently passed away.

A 41-year-old male lorry driver was arrested for driving without due care or reasonable consideration.

Police investigations are ongoing.

Aftermath

Passers-by who witnessed the aftermath of the accident told Shin Min Daily News that a motorcycle was seen in the middle of the road, with a dark-coloured lorry parked beside it.

When a Shin Min reporter visited the accident site, there was a pool of blood on the ground and fragments of motorcycle parts scattered along the roadside.

A vendor from a nearby coffee shop told the Chinese paper that traffic accidents are common in the area, although he did not witness this particular incident.

"(Traffic accidents) happen every few months. There are many factories nearby, and there are also many large trucks. There are also many Malaysian motorcycles in the factories, and some people speed and run red lights," he said.

A representative from the lorry company told Shin Min that the "foreign driver" involved have been arrested and that he would fully cooperate with the police investigation.

Just started working in Singapore

Relatives of the deceased told Shin Min at the mortuary on Jun. 9 that the victim was an aviation engineer who had only been working in Singapore for eight months.

He typically commuted between Singapore and Malaysia on a daily basis.

A friend, who did not want to be named, said that he understood that the deceased had just gotten off work and the accident occurred on his way home.

Second accident in 6 months

The accident comes just six months after another fatal accident at the same junction on Jan. 24.

A 31-year-old motorcyclist died after an accident with a car at the junction.
