Police reportedly stopped passers-by at the scene from taking photos due to the extent of the blaze.

At one point, the car burst into flames as it was hosed down by firefighters.

Smelled something burning

The car owner told Shin Min that he was driving home with his daughter after dinner.

He suddenly smelled something burning not long after setting off on their journey.

His wife, who was driving another car, pulled up in front of her husband and told him smoke was seen coming out of the vehicle.

The car caught fire shortly after father and daughter got out.

3-year-old car

The car owner told Shin Min that the vehicle was only three years old and was regularly serviced.

He said he did not understand why it caught fire: "We can't figure out why such a brand name car would suddenly catch fire. But as I said, it's good that no one is hurt."

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said the fire involved the engine compartment of the vehicle and the fire was put out using a water jet.

No injuries were reported and the incident is under investigation.
