The bodies of a married couple who went missing after their boat capsized in the waters off Port Klang, Selangor, were found by rescuers on Sunday (Jun. 8).

Gan Hon Tat, 32, and his wife, Careen Man, 29, were found 200m apart at about 7:45am, state media The Star and Bernama reported.

They are among the five people who died in the capsizing incident.

The bodies of the other three victims, the couple's son, Darren Gan, 3, as well as Cheu Son Hin, 50, and Fong Yong Sen, 29, were found in the boat.

The only survivor of the incident was Alvin Chang Yan Qin, 17.

"It all happened so quickly"

The incident took place at about 5pm on Friday (Jun. 6).

"It all happened so quickly; the boat capsized and began filling with water before it sank," Chang said to the media.

Chang said that they were taking the boat on a test run when it made a U-turn about 30 minutes after departing from the Royal Selangor Yacht Club.

"The incident happened very quickly when the relatively fast-moving boat suddenly overturned, and in less than 10 seconds, water had entered all compartments of the boat," Chang said, as quoted by New Straits Times (NST).

"The situation inside the boat became chaotic, but I saved myself by trying to swim out before managing to sit on top of the overturned boat."

Second test run for the boat: Chang

Chang said he cried out for help after realising other passengers were nowhere to be seen.

After about five minutes of holding on to the boat, another boat with fishermen came and rescued him.

The 17-year-old said that the fishermen helped to contact the authorities for assistance.

According to Chang, this was the second test run for the boat.

He said that prior to the incident, the boat was found to be in overall good condition.

It is believed that the victims were not wearing life jackets at the time, The Star reported.
