1880, a private members' club in Robertson Quay, has shut down.
It announced on Jun. 17 that it would close permanently and enter liquidation.
It was founded by Marc Nicholson and opened in late 2017.
The closure comes after the 1880 club in Hong Kong faced the same fate on May 30, less than a year after it opened.
A club email sent to members late on Jun. 16 and seen by Mothership said:
Spend and frequency per visit of our members has been trending down. The company needed an injection and some efficiency optimisation.
We had three offers to invest in or acquire 1880. Anyone of these would have restored us to health and given a runway to building a global brand. I was extremely excited believing in my heart that our future was secure and bright.
We were however unsuccessful in getting those offers over the line. With no further funds to pay our staff or suppliers we have no alternative but to close.
The message also said the club's holding company 38 Degrees and operating company 1880 have been placed into provisional liquidation.
Offered social spaces
1880 in Singapore offered co-working and social spaces, as well as a restaurant, bar, and spa
It also hosted speakers such as former foreign minister George Yeo, as well as veteran diplomats Kishore Mahbubani and Bilahari Kausikan.
Still promoting events a day before
The closure came abruptly as the club, located on the third floor of a hotel, was still promoting events on its social media accounts a day before and remained open to members.
South China Morning Post previously reported that 1880 in Hong Kong had HK$20 million (S$3.26 million) debts and was entering liquidation.
The Hong Kong club reportedly owed two months' worth of pay to 100 employees and rent.
