A 30 year-old Malaysian man was arrested for attempting to smuggle drugs, including about 1,402g of heroin, in a Malaysian-registered car arriving at Woodlands Checkpoint on Jun. 14.

Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) officers directed the car for enhanced checks and found a bundle believed to contain controlled drugs behind the car's glove compartment.

Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) officers were alerted immediately and further inspection uncovered two more bundles in the same location.

A total of 1,402g of heroin, 495g of cannabis, and 115g of "Ice" were found in the bundles.

The drugs is estimated to be worth more than S$173,000 and can potentially supply 800 addicts for a week.

Investigations are currently ongoing.

Those who import into or export from Singapore more than 15g of diamorphine or “pure heroin” may face the death penalty.

ICA and CNB will continue to work together to prevent such attempts to smuggle drugs across our borders, the news release said.

Security checks will continue to be conducted at the checkpoints to prevent any attempts to smuggle prohibited weapons, explosives and other contrabands.
