Are you a fresh graduate wondering about what path to forge in life, unsure which direction to take?

Or are you contemplating a mid-career switch, in search of new skills and experiences?

With its array of monetary benefits such as a sign-on bonus of up to S$30,000 and even sponsorships for further education, perhaps you can consider joining the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA).

Minimal entry requirements

If you’re worried that you might not make the cut for the entry requirements due to a niche university degree or diploma, fret not.

ICA accepts candidates from diverse educational backgrounds — university, polytechnic, GCE or Nitec graduates in any discipline are suitable for the roles.

No relevant experience is required, but you should be physically fit and have normal colour vision.

Prospective “Guardians of our Borders” must also be Singapore citizens.

These general requirements are the same for the roles of an ICA Inspector and ICA Sergeant.

With sign-on bonuses and allowances in the mix, the perks of joining ICA just became even more compelling. Here's a quick salary comparison between ICA Officers and the median in other industries.

Take note that the salaries indicated below are exclusive of frontline allowances.

ICA Inspectors (Degree holders)

As part of their foundational posting, ICA Inspectors are deployed at Woodlands, Tuas or the Coastal Checkpoints. As Singapore’s first line of defence, they are responsible for enforcing laws relating to immigration and managing overall operations at ICA's checkpoints and work units.

Subsequent postings include opportunities for rotations to the Air and Sea Domains, staff units and even overseas job postings.

Here’s an ICA officer who had been rotated to a few postings:
