S'poreans gave PAP 'clear & strong mandate' to govern: PM Wong on 65.57% landslide GE2025 win
They are "deeply humbled and grateful by the result", PM Wong said.
Prime Minister and People's Action Party (PAP) Secretary-General Lawrence Wong said that the PAP were "deeply humbled and grateful by the result", calling it a "clear and strong mandate" to govern.
The ruling party attained an overall 65.57 per cent of the popular vote in the 2025 General Election, an increase from 61.23 per cent in the 2020 election.
The PAP held a press conference in the wee hours of the morning on May 4 shortly after they won a landslide win.
"This is my first election as Prime Minister and Secretary General of the PAP. My team and I gave it our all in this campaign, and I am deeply humbled and grateful for the results", PM Wong said.
PM Wong said that Singaporeans have given the PAP a "clear and strong mandate" to govern.
The party won 82 out of the 92 seats contested, with the five seats in Marine Parade-Braddell Heights also going to them due to a walkover.
Thanking all voters and Singaporeans, PM Wong said the results will put Singapore in a "better position" to face "this turbulent world".
International investors and foreign governments "will have taken note of tonight's results. It's a clear signal of trust, stability and confidence in your government", he said.
Heavy responsibility
PM Wong also reminded all newly elected PAP MPs that the mandate they have received is "a heavy responsibility to take good care" of their constituencies.
This also includes "engaging residents, building deep relationships with them, bringing forward their voices in Parliament, and also to advocate and champion causes that matter to Singaporeans".
This is so that they can have "robust debates" in Parliament and "secure a brighter future for all", PM Wong said.
