The GE is over, with the PAP securing a 65.7 per cent victory.
President Tharman Shanmugaratnam congratulated the Secretary-General of PAP, PM Wong, on the "strong mandate" PAP received, and formally invited him to form the next government.
In his post, President Tharman said one thing was clear, "Singapore is the winner".
He stressed that regardless of how people voted, Singaporeans "remain united" in "wanting the best future" for Singapore.
He also noted that Singapore had not seen a "loss of trust" in politics or "sharp polarisation of views" that afflict other countries.
Commending all who took part, President Tharman expressed his wish that the ruling and opposition MPs debate policies "thoughtfully and respectfully" in the next parliament, and finding common cause in building a promising future for Singaporeans.
"A future that is staunchly multiracial. One where Singapore continues to be held in high regard internationally. One that gives every Singaporean opportunity and dignity. And one that encourages those who care deeply, and think independently and creatively, to help expand what we are collectively capable of achieving.:
