Canadian influencer Alexis Dang confused why S'poreans keep telling her they'll vote for her
Confused.
Alexis Dang is a Canadian influencer with over 40,000 followers on Instagram and 95,000 followers on TikTok.
Dang recently uploaded a video on May 2 where she wondered why people kept commenting "don't worry, I'll vote for you".
The Canadian Dang said she understood this might be because there was a Singaporean Dang with the same name as her "in a contest or something".
This is of course because the WP candidate of the same name was just involved in a hotly contested Punggol GRC challenge.
Canadian Dang posted a followup tiktok where she found the source of confusion, and noted, rightfully so, that she didn't see the resemblance apart from the name and the fact that they were both Asian.
Also, this is a hilarious exchange.
While she admitted she didn't know anything about Singapore politics, she did ask to be kept updated to how Singaporean Dang did.
Punggol GRC
The incumbent People’s Action Party (PAP) won Punggol GRC with 55.17 per cent of votes.
PAP won 63,589 of the votes, while the Workers' Party (WP) lost with 44.83 per cent, 51,663 of the votes.
A total of 822 out of 116,074 votes were rejected.
The PAP team comprised Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong, Sun Xueling, Janil Puthucheary and Yeo Wan Ling.
The WP team was made up of Harpreet Singh, Alexis Dang, Jackson Au and Siti Alia Binte Abdul Rahim Mattar.
